Welcome to becoming your own Plant Ninja!

The fact that you are here tells us, not only do you care about your green friends but that you have likely already tried a lot of products that simply don't work. We have been there.

Hi! My name is Sally and I am the owner of Simple Roots Plant Design. I am here to help you (along with our growing team) to help you grow (wink) your confidence with your pretty green friends.

Let’s be real, it starts with one plant.

You see that cute little green friend at Trader Joes while grocery shopping, or that pretty peace lily on an end cap of Home Depot…you can’t resist. You get her home, pop her on that book shelf and you actually manage to remember to water her every now and then. After months of watching her grow you decide the next biggest step of your life. It's time…for another plant. It's all you can do to control yourself from turning your kitchen and living room into a full on greenhouse in your home.

Trust me. I get it. I was once you. In fact, that is actually how I got into this amazing business. I became the plant rehab center for all my friends. They would drop off their sad, disease infected poor little plants and I would nurse them back to life.

Yet, I had so many questions.

Where do I begin with such sad plants?

How do I know when to keep or “return” to the earth?

What are these gross white things?

How much do I water them?

When do I water them?

Where do I buy my plants and what should I expect to spend?

How do I know if a plant is toxic to animals?

When do I replant my girls?

So. Many. Questions.

Well, one day the stars were aligned and I met Abby Moldenhauer, one of San Diego’s Plantscape Legends.  We hit off immediately and I couldn't believe how much she knew, such a wealth of knowledge! I never in a million years thought I would end up buying her company after she owned it for 44+ years! She stayed on with me for months, training me, teaching me (yes sharing her secret plant spray recipe and magic soil blend!) and mentoring me. Her knowledge and wisdom is highly commendable and I STILL call her regularly to fact check and ask her questions!

Do I know everything? Nope.

Does Abby? Nope…I mean she knows a lot.

But here is the coolest thing about horticulture, there are endless things to learn! There is always something new, new plant, new pest, new variety…etc.

So if you have questions, ASK US!!!

Chances are, if I don't know, you better believe I will ask Abby. If she doesn’t know, we will hunt down that answer and then boom…we all learned something new together! Win Win…Am I right?!

So whether you're in the market to buy your very first plant, re-pot an existing plant, want to learn more about pests/mites, let’s stick to the basics. I am here to help you, why, because I absolutely love to nerd out on plants! Check out some of my short videos of some of the most common questions!
